Your city's air,
in cigarettes.
Breathing bad air harms you the way smoking does. Pack a Day turns the PM2.5 around you into a number you can feel.
You quit smoking. Your city didn't.
DAY
Pick a city to start.
How it works
Three taps from your toolbar to a number that reframes your commute.
- 01
Pick your city
Start typing. It matches cities worldwide, or grabs your location on the first run.
- 02
Set your hours
Slide from zero to a full day outdoors.
- 03
Open the pack
The cigarettes that rise out are your dose. The worse the air, the fuller the pack.
The science
A microgram count means little. A cigarette is something everyone understands.
Berkeley Earth found that about 22 µg/m³ of PM2.5 over a day does roughly the same damage as one cigarette, drawn from the mortality work of Pope et al. (2016). Pack a Day runs that conversion on live air data for the city you pick.
cigarettes = (PM2.5 ÷ 22) × (hours ÷ 24)
