Why cigarettes?

A count of micrograms means little to most of us. A cigarette is something everyone understands. Berkeley Earth worked out that breathing about 22 µg/m³ of PM2.5 for a day carries roughly the mortality risk of one cigarette, so the extension does that conversion for the city you pick.

Where does the air data come from?

Open-Meteo's air-quality service. The extension asks our server for the current PM2.5 and AQI at your city's coordinates, and the server fetches it from Open-Meteo.

Why is my small town missing?

City search covers a large global database, but very small or unusually spelled places may not appear. Try a nearby larger city.

Does it track me?

No. No accounts, cookies, or analytics. Your last city and hours are stored only on your own device. See the privacy policy.

Is the number a real cigarette count?

No, it's a risk comparison, not a literal tally. The disclaimer explains the limits.
